Amid the repercussions resulting from Covid-19, a new sense of urgency has arisen surrounding rent - and impending evictions - throughout the Kansas City metro area. As unemployment surges, the availability of affordable housing in Kansas City has only declined since the pandemic hit, leading to a rise in evictions throughout our communities.

According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, the Kansas City area has the most expensive cost of housing in Missouri. In a new report on Flatland, KCPBS’s online news source, we dig into the rising cost of renting an apartment or home throughout the Kansas City area, and what it means for families and individuals who suddenly find themselves without a means of income.

As Kansas City's public media, we'll continue to report on the issues facing our audiences, neighbors and community members. To learn more about these ongoing crises, catch up on our housing digital and television programming below.
