Flatland in Focus (FIF) Reporter/Producer - Contract

Duration: 11/6/2023-6/30/2024
20/hour a week at $20/hour

Kansas City PBS is seeking contract work on a monthly half-hour program that involves reporting on a single issue in KC with a roundtable and community-centered follow-up discussion. This role would primarily be assisting in the pre-production and reporting for our lead producer.

Duties:

  • Attend weekly meetings in person for Flatland in Focus editorial discussion and other long–term planning retreats. During these meetings, the contractor will be expected to contribute to brainstorming, sourcing and coordination planning for upcoming episodes.
  • The contractor will be responsible for assisting in the pre-production process of identifying sources and preparing them for on-camera interviews, following the production timeline as closely as possible.
  • Join Flatland in Focus director on location for shoots and assistance in setting up lighting and camera equipment. Contractor will also be expected to conduct well-researched interviews with video interview subjects.
  • Contractor will act as a supporting reporter throughout the season and step into the role of lead reporter for assigned episodes. As lead reporter, contractor is expected to write companion article to be published alongside Flatland in Focus air date. 
  • Contractor must be able to assist with auxiliary pre-production tasks such as requesting promos, proofing scripts, and circulating marketing materials to relevant team members.
  • Contractor will be responsible for assisting with post-production tasks such as managing media, uploading content, sharing published content with participating/relevant sources and double-checking metadata entries across managing workflows such as Trello and research documents.
  • Contractor will be expected to assist in other media management, written content and video editing as assigned.

Director of Major Giving

Kansas City PBS is seeking a Director of Major Giving. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this position is responsible for securing funds for the organization by managing and growing a group of assigned, qualified donors to achieve high retention, increased engagement, and upgrading cumulative giving. The Director of Major Giving will collaborate with management, Board of Directors, volunteers and professional development staff to facilitate successful donor development and results. 

SALARY RANGE: $77,000 – $82,000 

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage and collaborate with Donor Relations Manager to ensure all deliverables are being met, members are receiving quality customer service, and members are receiving regular communications from the organization as part of an overall cultivation plan.
  • Qualify and cultivate prospective donors.
  • Lead major and planned giving initiatives, as well as special campaign programs.
  • Establish relationships with existing and potential donors, identifying KCPBS’ programs and services that best align with their interests. Determine readiness of donors to progress toward a deeper engagement with KCPBS.
  • Develop and implement strategies for solicitation of major gifts, including determining ongoing relationships with prospect/donor; recommending specific purpose and level of gift; identifying those to be involved in cultivation and subsequent solicitation; assuring that solicitations are carried out.
  • Expand KCPBS’ overall community support by strengthening relationships with high net-worth individuals and foundations.

 

Major Gifts:

  • Act as liaison with foundations and work with Chief Development Officer and Chief Content Officer in developing grant applications and partnerships.
  • Ensure accountability and accuracy in gift acceptance policies and procedures.
  • Promote transformational giving by cultivating present donors and prospects to drive significant increases in individual giving.

 

Strategic Planning:

  • Implement an integrated development plan, providing a comprehensive view of the interrelationship of development activities with annual programming, outreach and marketing.
  • Participate in annual budget preparation, including revenue goals and expenses associated with major giving program with emphasis on return on investment.
  • Facilitate major giving plan, including structure, relationship to other development activities, benefits to donors and recognition.

 

Donor Management:

  • Monitor deliverables on funded projects and report to donors on the use of their funds.
  • Maximize donor loyalty by coordinating an effective program for recognition, involvement and stewardship of major and special gifts to ensure future giving.
  • Work with KCPBS staff to maintain prospect relationship continuum, including efficient use of donor and prospect records and data management.

 

Planned Giving:

  • Promote estate-planning opportunities on-air, in print, on the web and in person.
  • Provide ongoing engagement opportunities to KCPBS Legacy Society donors and prospects.
  • Develop engagement opportunities with trust attorneys and financial planners.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Passion for KCPBS mission and organizational values.
  • Proven ability to analyze, plan, initiate and complete donor initiatives in a strategic manner.
  • Superior public relations skills with experience working directly with donors and senior volunteers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively and concisely communicate complex issues.

Traffic Coordinator

Kansas City PBS is seeking a Traffic Coordinator. Reporting to the Director of Broadcast Operations, the Traffic Coordinator ensures the timely creation and entry of programming logs with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and the best use of on-air breaks. Ideal candidates will be detail-oriented and highly organized. They will be proficient in cross-departmental collaboration and will support the promotional goals of the production, marketing and programming teams and will manage on-air contract fulfillment for corporate support. This is a fast-paced and dynamic position that requires strong communication skills, exceptional multitasking abilities, and a keen eye for detail. 

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE (Hourly/Non-Exempt): $49,000-$52,000 

JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of program logs.
  • Ensure that local programs, underwriting, and promotional materials are uploaded and finalized at Centralcast adhering to designated deadlines.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, reports, and records of underwriting schedules, delivery confirmations, and communicate any modifications or cancellations to the Corporate Support team in a timely manner.
  • Work with appropriate stakeholders to ensure all log changes and/or corrections for programs, underwriters and interstitials are made in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate and schedule underwriting spots for broadcast programs based on the contracts and agreements with advertisers, ensuring accurate placement and timing.

Motion Designer

Kansas City PBS is seeking a Motion Designer. Reporting to the Director of Production, the motion designer is responsible for creating assets that support production content and initiatives housed under Kansas City PBS’ three brands (Kansas City PBS, 90.9 The Bridge, Flatland). This service position works with the production team, key internal stakeholders, and outside vendors to provide art direction, produce assets and ensure deadlines are met and brand guidelines are followed for a variety of projects. This role is pivotal in bringing visual storytelling to life through captivating and engaging animations, graphics, and effects. Expertise in television and video production will be crucial in delivering high-quality motion graphics content that aligns with our brand and resonates with our target audience. Ideal candidates will possess a creative eye with an attention to detail and will be able to remain organized and prioritize projects in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment. They will have the ability to advocate for design best practices and brand guidelines while weighing constructive feedback from the client to find the best possible solution.

JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Collaborate closely with the production, marketing and editorial teams to conceptualize and develop motion graphics for television and video projects.
  • Create visually stunning and compelling animations, titles, lower thirds, transitions, and other motion graphics elements for documentaries, short-form videos, and social media.
