What began as a wellness initiative — to create a calming outdoor retreat space for employees — became an environmental project when Kansas City PBS’ Green Team heard about the plight of pollinators.
Pollinators — like bees and butterflies — are sorely lacking places to land, eat, and reproduce. The Green Team toured the Monarch Waystation at the Kansas City Zoo for ideas, then collected supplies. The team ordered a bed kit, got plants from Green Thumb Native Plant Nursery, soil from Missouri Organics, and labor from staff and volunteers. Two weeks later the pollinator gardens — and calming outdoor retreat — were introduced to the entire station.
