State of the Arts

The arts are alive.

Despite COVID-19 and a near-halt of the industry over the past two years, the arts and the creative spirits behind them are strong - and more important than ever.

But how are the people and groups behind them faring?

Regional Emmy-winning producer Brad Austin (Me, Dorothy…And This Road to Oz; Bird: Not Out of Nowhere) sits down with Kansas City arts leaders in an intimate setting to discuss Kansas City’s State of the Arts in this first annual broadcast special. Each unabridged half-hour conversation will be available to stream online at flatlandkc.org, with an hour-long broadcast special airing on Kansas City PBS in Thursday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m.

State of the Arts explores how individual organizations, performers and creatives strove to overcome the pandemic, creatively shifting to provide for their audiences. Plus, leaders will reveal the season’s offerings, what the future of the local arts scene looks like to their organization, as well as personal insights into serving the community in 2022. The film features conversations with representatives from the Kansas City Ballet, the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, the Kansas City Repertory Theatre and the 18th and Vine District.

The arts are undoubtedly alive; this is the State of the Arts in KC.
