Week in Review Celebrates its Silver Anniversary in October

Kansas City Week in Review made its debut KCPT broadcast on Oct. 2, 1992. Riverboat gambling and the end to a disappointing Kansas City Royals season were among the topics discussed. While the show has gone through several different looks over the years, the focus on providing deeper context to local stories has not wavered.

John Masterman, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter, was the host when the show originally hit the airwaves. You may recognize another familiar face on the panel of that debut broadcast. That’s Mike Shanin, the master of puns and host of KCPT’s Ruckus.

In its 25 years on the air, Kansas City Week in Review has been focused on providing in depth analysis of the biggest issues in the metro and examining the local impact of national stories. From riverboat gambling to KCI, Week in Review takes a deep dive into every twist and turn of the city’s political machinery. And even though 25 years after the show’s debut, the Royals may be wrapping up another disappointing season, Nick Haines will be ready to discuss stadium lease agreements and the economic impact of a World Series or a Super Bowl when the time comes.
