Kansas City PBS Receives 2019 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Multimedia and News Documentary

Kansas City PBS has won two prestigious Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards. The first in the Large Market, Multimedia category for Public Works: A Level Foundation, a six-month long project looking at affordable housing, evictions, and gentrification in Kansas City.

A Level Foundation

The perception of Kansas City's affordability is changing. After years of stagnant wages and skyrocketing rents, many metro residents are not able to find affordable housing. Starting in 2018, KCPT and its digital news team at Flatland are "raising the roof" in a reporting series featuring in-depth videos, online stories, and broadcast town halls.

The second, a collaboration with KSHB 41 Action News, in the Large Market, News Documentary category for 68: The Kansas City Race Riots, Then and Now, an hour-long special that marked the 50th anniversary of the violence in KC following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.
